Recent work on the virtual reconstruction of a Roman town is presented, in the context of issues like conserving, presenting and communicating that cultural heritage to the general public. Reconstructions are developed using manual and procedural techniques, with the support of efficient and low-cost tools, using the internet for collaborative and dissemination purposes. This paper also intends to discuss general issues of the extent of scientific knowledge and the authenticity of communicated products.

This article aims to introduce a number of technological topics, applied to the valuing of several cultural heritage structures in Portugal, that may be used in the context of issues such as conserving, presenting and communicating cultural heritage to the general public. These attend important aspects such as the modeling technique (manual or procedural), the cost (with the support of efficient and low-cost tools), lighting considerations (the use of accurate illumination of the space) and the use of different dissemination approaches (using in-situ approaches or the internet for collaborative purposes or to increase the target audience). Most of the results, presented mainly through the means of virtual models, are available in several museums showing their advantages in the interpretation of our national history and providing new ways for visitants to exploit our heritage.

In recent years we have assisted to the growth in two major areas related to eHealth: one dedicated to the conception, creation
and implementation of biosensors and another dedicated to the monitoring of vital parameters provided by these sensors.
Furthermore, the exponential growth of mobile technologies and the widespread use of mobile devices embedding standards of
next-generation Personal Area Networks (PAN), such as the Bluetooth Low Energy, come to revolutionize the way the
monitoring of vital parameters is done, now following the anytime and anywhere approach with further energy efficiency.
The work presented in this paper brings together the technologies addressed above in order to create a ready-to-use, simple,
efficient, safe, low-cost and compatible solution capable of monitoring vital parameters and generate alerts in the presence of
abnormal values. The tests showed the simplicity of the system setup, which is an important feature for elderly, demonstrated
the reliability of measuring values and alarm rising, and also the warranty of data confidentiality.

The fast rise of the population aging verified in the last decades brings new challenges to the modern societies. Most elderly persons have the usual problems related to the old age, like health chronic problems and sensory and cognitive impairments. Therefore, it becomes essential to ensure the quality of life, safety and well-being to all elderly persons. The evolution of the sensors technology, low-power microelectronics and wireless communication standards allows that the gerontechnology be increasingly available and present in our society. This paper presents an integrated e-healthcare system for elderly support, which allows monitoring the biomedical parameters of a person in real time, anywhere and in any situation without interfering with its daily routines. The developed system comprises a personal biomedical data acquisition subsystem and an information storage center. The developed sensorial devices are responsible for acquiring and transmit wirelessly the biomedical signals to a smartphone or tablet. The collected information can also be saved in a storage center, where it can be managed and maintained. The medical data are accessible to the responsible entities for creating the medical history of the elderly persons to ensure a well-founded diagnosis. The high processing capacity of the developed electronic system enables the implementation of advanced algorithms for detection of health problems in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the elderly throughout the day. The medical assistance platform also provides to the elderlies telemedicine consultations in the comfort of their home if the videoconferencing service of the platform is used.
